National Philanthropy Day is celebrated nationwide in November. Its purpose is to recognize the great contributions of individuals active in the philanthropic community.

Richard, a senior, and Eric, a junior, received this award because of their wide range of volunteer work for community service organizations.

One of the many factors cited for their selection for this award was their creation of an endowment at the San Marino Schools Foundation.

Through the guidance of their father, Edward, they began making investments in 2010. They used their own financial investment earnings to create an endowment in honor of retiring principal Mary Johnson and for the support and encouragement Richard received from teachers and staff during his year away from school due to medical reasons.

The endowment supports athletics, music and the arts, student organizations, and faculty and staff appreciation and recognition at the high school.

Because of their generosity, their endowment will continue to support these areas at our high school in perpetuity.

We congratulate Richard and Eric on receiving this award and for their contributions to San Marino High School.
