On October 10, 2019, the California Department of Education announced that our school district, once again, ranked top in CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) test results! This distinction marks the fifth year in a row where our school district had the highest percentage of students who meet and exceeded CAASPP standards. In addition to being top-ranked, our students showed increased proficiency in English-language arts and math compared to last year.
This top-ranking symbolizes the educational excellence that our students receive, even though our district receives less public funding than nearly all school districts in the state of California. Parents and community members help make the difference by donating to SMSF. Contributions to SMSF fund 21 full-time teaching positions across all four school sites, helping to maintain small classroom sizes and to provide enrichment programs.
While this is a time to celebrate, we can’t forget the importance of continued investment in our schools. Public funding for our district remains challenging by financial support from parents, and the community can counteract this challenge. This year SMSF is urging for 100% parent participation. Any level of support will positively impact our schools, and thus our children. Our work at the Foundation to support SMUSD students never ends, and SMUSD’s being ranked #1, again, shows more than ever how vital support is from our community and parents. Imagine the possibilities if we all come together to support our schools.
Thank you to all our donors who have already contributed to SMSF this year. You empower excellence and allow us to imagine the possibilities for our students. Lastly, congratulations to all district teachers, administrators, and staff for their incredible work!
