The Wellness Center at San Marino High School continues to expand its student activities by kicking off with “Everyday Heroes,” a lunchtime speaker series.
Laura Ives, SMHS School Counselor for Student Support and Intervention, says her goal for the program is to, “highlight amazing things that everyday people are doing.” She hopes that this speaker series demonstrates how making an excellent contribution to the world by helping others can help create a path to positive personal mental wellness.
Kim Delaney, who spoke at the first of this series on March 1, is a childhood cancer survivor. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age three, she overcame extremely long odds to beat the disease. As a senior in high school, she raised $60,000 for blood cancer research and was honored as “Girl of the Year” by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Today, Kim attends the University of San Diego where she is majoring in Communications and minoring in Change Making.
This Thursday, March 14th, Claudia Boles of the Teen Crisis Text Line will speak about how texting can save lives.
